From Service to Booths: Students Fundraise for Orphans, Out-of-School
Children & Cancer!

In a time where students are getting increasingly busy with their school work, various students from Year 7-9 decided to transform business into charity by selling various foods such as burgers, tteokbokki and Indomie. Most notably, Harapan Pemuda (Year 9 booth), The Youth Empowerment Network (Year 8 booth) and other groups led the momentum of the week surging forward.

1. Harapan Pemuda - Jajanan Berkah
The Year 9 stand belonged to Harapan Pemuda, a student group that previously raised roughly around Rp. 42.000.000 for orphans. This year, they decided to initiate “Jajanan Berkah” to sell burgers, grilled cheese, fries, drinks and cookies for children who are unable to go to school in rural Javanese areas with a final profit of around Rp. 15.000.000.

Additionally, their other program “Lemari Harapan” gathered 289 pieces of clothes for orphans/old folks' homes.

2. Youth Empowerment Network - Hope for Orphans
On the other stall, the Youth Empowerment Network (YEN) booth offered a more youthful selection of goods such as tteokbokki, Indomie, Dubai chocolate, bulgogi kimbap, bubble tea, nachos, omelette and macaroni. Here, they raised Rp. 10.000.000 in total and used the money to buy educational materials, toys, and books for children in the Panti Asuhan Mekar Lestari Orphanage.

Adenia, a member, said “Although it has been a chaotic week and there were a lot of disagreements, we gained lots of experience and got closer to each other in the end.”

3. Smile Stickers - Helping Children with Cancer
“It was a very fun experience and we’re glad we could help kids with cancer”, said Felicia, one of the members of the Smile Stickers group who sold stickers of cute animals, music artists, and memes, earning over Rp. 4.000.000 for Yayasan Pita Kuning.

4. Other Groups
Alongside these major groups, other smaller groups sold Pokemon cards and additional food products. For example, one team sold assorted chips and crispy macaroni to earn Rp. 9.000.000 and donate it to Ayo Mengajar x Tunas Muda School which is part of the Aksi Paskah Pembangunan 2025 project to help a Catholic school in Kabupaten Asmat, Papua.

As a conclusion of this booth week, students have seen the Tunas Muda’s first SA Booth Market Week as a major success, encouraging students to help vulnerable communities through Service as Action, a required program of the MYP.

Whether through a Rp. 20.000 stickers or a Rp. 50.000 burgers, students discovered the simple economics of empathy: using their time to prepare products that turn such moments into opportunities to keep children in classrooms and off the streets.

While the event has ended, organisers say the real victory was witnessing classmates “buy-in” to service and looking to future prospects of similar programs – one booth at a time.
